Central Iowa Canvass Director

Job Summary

Recruit, train, and manage a canvassing team to knock on tens of thousands of doors educating Iowans on water pollution and the cancer crisis. Assign turf, analyze performance via VAN reports, and enforce quality control to minimize fraudulent data submissions. Schedule canvassers, coordinate transportation including rental cars, and complete at least one canvass shift weekly. Identify meetup locations for sendoffs and ensure timely payments through collaboration with the Finance team. This full-time temporary role runs from immediate start through November 6, 2026, with remote canvassing operations and occasional field training. Based in Polk County, the position supports Food & Water Watch's efforts to build political power against factory farm pollution and carbon pipeline eminent domain.

Required Qualifications

  • At least one election cycle canvassing experience (either electoral or issue organizing works!)
  • Familiarity with VAN or a similar voter database tool
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States
  • We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas

Desired Qualifications

  • One election cycle canvass directing or one year organizing on an issue advocacy campaign
  • Experience training others
  • Experience with using Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets to track work
  • Knowledge of the region
  • Relationships with organizers and potential canvassers in this area
  • Strong interest in Food & Water Watch issues and commitment to social change
  • Strong verbal and written communication and time management skills
  • Desire to develop campaign organizing skills
