Job Summary
Center Support Assistant provides a warm, nurturing, stimulating, safe and loving environment where each child can develop language, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills appropriately. Assist in the classroom; implement developmentally appropriate activities; maintain communication with families; participate in staff meetings and trainings; ensure safe practices, sanitation, and adherence to policies; maintain children’s portfolios and records; support meal preparation and kitchen/janitorial duties as applicable. Requires High School Diploma or GED with DCF 45-hour training (CDA highly preferred); must complete TB/physical, 45-hour training, and CPR/First Aid, with ongoing in-service training; knowledge of child growth and development, developmentally appropriate practices for birth to 5 years, and ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse staff and families. Supervisory/organizational responsibilities include following safety guidelines, maintaining records, and participating in family engagement activities. Certifications include TB screening, 45-hour training, Serving Safe Food in Childcare within 90 days, and CPR/First Aid; must pass background screening for roles with contact with children. Environment involves indoor classroom and outdoor play with potential heavy physical activity; ability to lift up to 50 pounds and communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED with DCF 45-hour training
- CDA highly preferred
- Must have current First Aid and Pediatric CPR training
- Complete TB screening & physical before direct contact with children
- DCF required 45-hr training within 90 days
- Online Food Handlers Course Serving Safe Food in Childcare within 90 days
- 25 hours of in-service training annually
- Background screening as required
