Job Summary
Design and implement apprenticeship and adult training programs across skilled trades, health sciences, and additional occupational fields, directing curriculum development, instruction, and assessment to meet regional workforce demands. Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate instructional staff while managing enrollment, tuition scheduling, and budget administration for a self-supporting operation. Oversee evening class operations from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., including coverage rotation, student conduct, and emergency protocols, alongside coordinating with employers, unions, and regulatory bodies. Maintain working relationships with the VCCS and local law enforcement, ensuring compliance with state and federal apprenticeship standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, administration, and supervision of adult education and registered apprenticeship training
- Working knowledge of the regulatory and credentialing framework governing assigned program areas, including Virginia and federal Department of Labor apprenticeship standards, Virginia Board of Nursing regulations applicable to health sciences instruction, and VCCS related instruction requirements
- Sufficient knowledge of the instructional specialties represented in the Center to assess and evaluate program and personnel effectiveness, and skill in designing and managing training programs, in budget administration, and in the use of student databases
- Ability to communicate effectively with industry practitioners, employers, regulatory agencies, and public officials
- Ability to plan and direct the work of instructional and support staff
- Ability to analyze data in developing short- and long-range plans
- Mobility sufficient to patrol halls, shops, and grounds routinely, including during evening hours
- Must be available for evening coverage of every evening class
- Must be available for occasional weekend work for scheduled events
- Must be available for regular travel between sites and to employer locations
Desired Qualifications
- Department of Defense Master Instructor rating or comparable technical credential
- Considerable experience in the technical trades, adult or technical training, supervision, or curriculum and instruction
