Cell Production Manager

Job Summary
Lead the cell production and bioassay manufacturing team to drive operational excellence, continuous improvement, and high-quality, cell-based products within a safe, collaborative environment. Manage day-to-day operations of the Fremont bioassay and cell line production group; support new product introductions (NPI), Lean initiatives, and plans to improve turnaround time, on-time delivery, and revenue/EBITA targets. Coordinate volume execution, product transfer, and development initiatives; plan activities to avoid back orders and enhance product quality, efficiency, and throughput. Troubleshoot and optimize cell growth for viability and recovery of cryopreserved productions, with emphasis on adherent and suspension cultures and automation. Track KPIs for productivity and quality; support ISO/QA programs, control department records (SOPs, inventory, documents), and ensure training and qualifications. Oversee hiring, development, and retention of a diverse, highly qualified team; day-to-day management of the Fremont team, data analysis, QA/QC support, inventory, and system/tool maintenance; method development to support cell-based production.
Required Qualifications
- B.Sc. Masters or Ph.D or equivalent industrial experience in the life sciences, cell biology, biochemistry, chemistry or a related discipline
- at least 5 years of cell-based cell production in an industrial or academic laboratory setting
- expertise in culturing various cell lines (adherent and suspension)
- experience with GLP or GMP (preferred)
- previous supervisory experience of diverse laboratory personnel (preferred)
- experience with cell production, troubleshooting cell culture issues, inventory management, timelines and documentation
- ability to manage data analysis, QA/QC support, and ensure qualification of employees for assigned activities
