Job Summary
Design, build, and validate high-power metal-air fuel cells by developing novel current collector, separator, and electrode architectures to improve power, efficiency, and durability. Work with material scientists to optimize cathode, anode, membrane, and electrolyte materials while iterating cell and stack hardware in CAD to enhance performance. Rapidly prototype bench-scale electrochemical flow cells to test new chemistries before committing to pilot-scale builds, then collaborate with subscale and stack teams to identify scaleup limitations and implement innovative solutions. Own mechanical design and tolerancing of components including bipolar plates, flow fields, manifolds, and compression systems. Lead the technical direction of the company as a founding member, driving the transition from bench to production-intent systems.
Required Qualifications
- Track record of developing novel electrochemical cell architectures
- Hands-on experience building the physical stack hardware for flow-based systems
- Experience with bipolar plates
- Experience with flow fields
- Experience with manifolds
- Experience with gasket/sealing systems
- Experience with compression hardware
- Proficiency in CAD-based mechanical design
- Proficiency in DFM
- Ability to move from drawing to prototype to test stand
- Mechanical background
- Exposure to electrochemistry
- Experience working with cross-functional teams
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, start-up environment
- Results-oriented mindset
- Strong sense of urgency
- Full-time on-site availability
- Location in or willing to relocate to Hayward, CA
