Job Summary
Operate heavy-duty trucks with front, side, or rear-end load lift attachments to transport waste, recyclable material, or large mobile open-top and compactor containers from customer locations to disposal, transfer, or recycle facilities. Navigate high-traffic roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, performing highly skilled backing maneuvers in residential and industrial environments. Conduct pre and post-trip inspections, document checks, and complete end-of-day documentation while reporting unsafe situations or service interruptions to Operations Manager or Dispatch. Follow route assignments to collect residential household waste or recyclable material, ensuring customer locations are left clean and free of debris. Work Monday through Friday starting at 5am.
Required Qualifications
- 1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL
- 1 year equivalent military driving within the last 7 years
- Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located
- Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports
- Successfully complete pre-employment screening, including drug screen and physical
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with an air-brake endorsement
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B with an air-brake endorsement
- Must be able to lift 1,000 pounds
- Must be able to maneuver wheeled containers to a pick-up stage area
- Must be able to navigate high-traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots
- Must be able to perform highly skilled backing maneuvers
- Must be able to operate in tight overhead environments
- Must be able to safely maneuver vehicles in residential environments
- Must be able to prepare, load, and transport large mobile open-top and compactor containers
- Must be able to navigate driveways, alleyways, lots, and high-traffic roadways
- Must be able to strictly comply with all safety rules and protocols
- Must be able to perform pre and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle and document checks utilizing the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report)
- Must be able to immediately report all unsafe situations or service-related issues to Operations Manager or Dispatch
- Must be able to attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager
- Must be able to work closely with Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices
- Must be able to notify Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage
- Must be able to notify Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions including closed or impassable streets or alleyways, receptacles too heavy to service or potential safety hazards
- Must be able to communicate customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch
- Must be able to completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer's location clean and free of debris
- Must be able to follow route assignments as directed and complete end-of-day documentation and check-out process
- Must be able to perform all duties as scheduled by Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs
