Job Summary
Deliver comprehensive classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction to prepare students for Commercial Driver's License examinations, ensuring proficiency in vehicle operation, pre-trip inspections, and defensive driving strategies. Administer CDL skills tests, written exams, and practical road tests while maintaining accurate records of student performance and certification readiness. Enforce safety protocols, conduct risk assessments, and perform pre- and post-trip inspections on training vehicles to ensure operational safety and DOT compliance. Travel between training locations as required to support consistent program delivery across multiple sites. Maintain a clean driving record and stay current with federal and state regulations, including FMCSA guidelines and hazardous materials handling standards.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Class A CDL license from a state-approving agency with appropriate endorsements (Passenger, Air brakes, Hazmat)
- DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate
- Two years of required commercial driving experience
- One year of required technical skills in vehicle operation and maintenance
- Clean Driving Record: No major accidents within the last three years
- First Aid (including CPR & AED) Certification
- Third-Party Examiner Certification
- Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) compliance
- FMCSA Compliance Training
- OSHA Certifications
- Vehicle Inspection Training
- Skills Assessment and Certification
- Travel as required to multiple training locations
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Operate trailer landing gear
- Secure loads
- Frequent climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and standing for extended periods
- Crawling under vehicles
- Handling tools
- Maintain dexterity, coordination, and endurance to demonstrate safe driving techniques
- Standard 40-hour work week
- Physically present at the assigned campus location as scheduled by their manager
- Complete the federal Employment Eligibility Verification I-9 form
- Present acceptable and original documents to prove your identity and authorization to work in the United States
- Pass a criminal history background check
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred teaching or training experience
- Demonstrated expertise in conducting both written and practical CDL exams
