Job Summary

Train and evaluate student drivers to ensure they possess the skills required to become licensed commercial drivers. Deliver hands-on instruction covering safety inspections, backing, navigating turns, and driving in various traffic and road conditions. Administer state CDL exams as needed if certified. Assess student readiness daily to determine progression from the range to the road, resolving issues effectively while maintaining a positive work atmosphere. Work outdoors in all weather conditions, standing or walking 80% of the day. Requires at least one year of truck driving experience, fewer than three moving violations in five years, and a valid DOT road test pass. Salary range $53,000-$63,000 annually.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 1 year truck driving experience
  • Must be able to qualify as a CDL driver by meeting company requirements
  • Fewer than 3 moving violations within a 5 year period
  • No more than 1 moving violation within 12 months
  • Fewer than 2 suspensions within 3 years
  • No history of a DUI or DWI within the last 5 years
  • No more than 1 DUI or DWI within the last 15 years
  • Fewer than 2 preventable accidents within 5 years
  • Must be able to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) road test
  • Appropriate state certification as a CDL Examiner if tasked with administering exams
  • HSD or equivalent required
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions
  • Must be able to handle changing priorities
  • Must possess exceptional communication skills
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Must engage in ongoing education relating to teaching skills as part of faculty improvement to maintain post-secondary education requirements of the state in which the Academy is licensed
  • Must maintain Professional Truck driver Institute (PTDI) and Commercial Vehicle Training Association (CVTA) standards
  • Must complete a minimum of two American Association for Vocational School modules annually
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
