Job Summary
CDL Instructors train student drivers to become licensed commercial drivers; if incumbent has CDL Examiner certification issued by State, may administer exams as needed. Instruct on safety inspections, driving maneuvers (turns, backing, etc.), and evaluate student progress from range to road. Ensure student drivers can handle upgrades/downgrades and navigate intersections, urban/rural routes, expressways, and other scenarios. Resolve student issues and contribute to organizational objectives while upholding PTDI/CVTA standards and ongoing faculty development.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years OTR experience
- Must qualify as a Class A CDL driver by meeting all company hiring requirements
- Must have appropriate state certification as a CDL Examiner if tasked with administering exams
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Associates preferred
- Must be able to obtain additional endorsements within 90 days of notification
- Maintain PTDI and CVTA standards and complete a minimum of two American Association for Vocational School modules annually
- Must engage in ongoing education relating to teaching skills as part of faculty improvement to maintain post-secondary education requirements of the state in which the Academy is licensed
- Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions
- Must possess exceptional communication skills
- Must be self-motivated
