Job Summary
Operate heavy-duty trucks with front, side, or rear-end load lift attachments to transport material to disposal, transfer, or recycle facilities. Navigate high-traffic roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots while performing highly skilled backing maneuvers to collect residential household waste or recyclable material. Conduct pre and post-trip inspections documenting checks via DVIR, immediately report unsafe situations or service issues to Operations Manager or Dispatch, and completely dump receptacles leaving customer locations clean. Follow route assignments, complete end-of-day documentation, and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs. Work Monday through Friday starting at 5am.
Required Qualifications
- 1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL
- 1 year equivalent military driving within the last 7 years
- Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located
- Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports
- Successfully complete pre-employment screening, including drug screen and physical
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with an air-brake endorsement
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B with an air-brake endorsement
- Must be able to lift 1,000 pounds
- Must be able to maneuver wheeled containers
- Must be able to navigate high-traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots
- Must be able to perform highly skilled backing maneuvers
- Must be able to operate in tight overhead environments
- Must be able to safely maneuver vehicles in residential environments
- Must be able to operate heavy-duty trucks with front, side, or rear-end load lift attachments
- Must be able to transport material to a disposal, transfer or recycle facility
- Must be able to provide the pick-up service of containers filled with waste or recyclable material
- Must be able to operate in high-traffic roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots
- Must be able to prepare, loading, and transporting large mobile open-top and compactor containers
- Must be able to operate in industrial routes
- Must be able to comply with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules
- Must be able to comply with OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act) requirements
- Must be able to comply with DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements
- Must be able to comply with all local, state and federal laws
- Must be able to perform pre and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle and documents checks utilizing the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report)
- Must be able to report all unsafe situations or service-related issues to Operations Manager or Dispatch
- Must be able to attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager
- Must be able to work closely with Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices
- Must be able to notify Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage
- Must be able to notify Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions including closed or impassable streets or alleyways, receptacles too heavy to service or potential safety hazards
- Must be able to communicate customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch
- Must be able to completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer's location clean and free of debris
- Must be able to follow route assignments as directed and complete end-of-day documentation and check-out process
- Must be able to perform all duties as scheduled by Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs
- Must be able to strictly comply with all safety rules and protocols
- Must be subject to drug and alcohol testing—including pre‐employment screening, post‐incident evaluations, reasonable suspicion checks, and random testing
