Job Summary
Operate snowplow trucks safely during winter storms while following all DOT, OSHA, and company safety rules. Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report issues immediately. Communicate with Route Managers or Dispatch regarding unsafe situations or service needs. Attend required safety meetings, training sessions, and an 8-hour in-person snow training before the season starts. Assist other drivers or routes when required. This on-call position is needed only during inclement weather events determined by VDOT, with pay of $35/hour plus overtime, paid travel time, hotel, and per diem for out-of-town work. Candidates must hold a valid Class A or B CDL, maintain a clean driving record, and pass a DOT drug screen and MVR review.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Must be 18 or older
- Valid Class A or B CDL
- Clean driving record — no serious violations or multiple accidents within the past 5 years
- Willingness to travel to snow locations and stay for the duration of the event (hotel, travel time, and per diem paid by DCS)
- Must attend an 8-hour in-person snow training before the season starts
- Pass a DOT drug screen, and MVR review
