Job Summary
Operate trucks safely and in compliance with Company rules, applicable laws, and regulations to deliver merchandise to job sites, customer facilities, vendor facilities, and other locations. Load and secure the truck with Hajoca merchandise, affix DOT hazmat placards if hauling hazardous materials over 1,000 lbs, and unload correct items while obtaining legible signatures. Review shipping documents for accuracy, collect cash payments prior to releasing materials, and resolve shipping discrepancies with customers. Inspect the truck and required parts before departure, complete the Driver's Daily Vehicle Inspection Report for GVWR over 10,001 lbs, and secure keys at the end of the shift. Provide sales leads by noting prospective customer names and addresses discovered during deliveries. This hourly position at Gorman Co. in Sarasota, FL, pays $25 per hour and includes a Profit-Sharing Program. Candidates must hold a valid CDL with hazmat endorsement, be at least 21 years old, and pass a DOT physical examination.
Required Qualifications
- Be able to drive a vehicle over 26,001 lbs.
- Possess a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) for the vehicle(s) being driven, with hazmat endorsement if operating a vehicle that requires placarding for hazardous materials.
- Have a driving record that meets the criteria for being an Authorized Driver in accordance with Company policy.
- Be at least 21 years old
- Be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination before beginning work and again at least every two years while employed and performing this job function.
Desired Qualifications
- Know the laws, rules and regulations governing driving motor vehicles in general, and commercial motor vehicles subject to Department of Transportation regulations in particular.
- Be able to safely operate any delivery vehicle, including commercial motor vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 lbs. or more.
- Know of, be able to apply, and practice safety precautions in a warehouse and material handling environment.
- Be able to build and maintain a positive working relationship with customers, vendors and co-workers.
- Be able to remain calm and function effectively in stressful, unexpected, and/or emergency situations.
- Be able to learn to operate warehouse material-handling equipment.
- Be able to learn and operate the computer related systems used in the delivery process.
- Read, write, speak and understand English.
- Be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
