Job Summary
CDL-A Driver needed to support autonomous Class 8 truck testing as the designated safety driver. Based mainly in New Braunfels, TX, the role involves operating and monitoring test vehicles on public roads and closed-course tracks, taking immediate control when required, coordinating with customer test engineers and development teams, and providing detailed feedback and documentation. Responsibilities include pre-trip inspections, maintaining safety protocols and DOT compliance, supporting evening/weekend testing, and traveling up to 50% for testing at off-site locations. Training and certification will be provided for customer-specific programs. Vehicle type is Class 8 trucks; schedule ~40 hours/week with travel and test activities as required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid CDL license with trailer towing experience
- Current DOT Medical Card and all required compliance documentation
- Clean driving record and strong safety history
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating Class 8 commercial vehicles
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations and commercial vehicle operations
- Excellent situational awareness and defensive driving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with engineering and technical teams
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured testing procedures
- Ability to travel overnight up to 50% as required
- Ability to successfully complete customer-specific training and certification programs
- Ability to perform light vehicle preparation and inspection tasks
- Reliable, punctual, and capable of maintaining consistent route performance
