Job Summary
Prepare patients for examinations by taking vital signs, recording medical histories, and documenting chief complaints. Assist providers during examinations and minor procedures, perform basic laboratory tests, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing. Administer medications and injections as directed, perform EKGs and other diagnostic tests, and clean and sterilize medical instruments. Schedule patient appointments, verify patient information and insurance, maintain accurate records in the EHR system, and handle phone calls and follow-up communication. Assist with billing and coding processes, manage lab specimen transport, and provide compassionate patient-centered care and education. Crosstrain and provide coverage in staffing when regularly scheduled staff are absent. Maintain required certifications and pursue continuing education relevant to the role.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Current Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification through a recognized organization (e.g., NHA)
- BLS provider status at hire or obtained within 6 months of hire
- Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, patients and the public
- Basic keyboarding and computer skills
Desired Qualifications
- 1 year's working experience in a clinical or healthcare setting
- Experience navigating electronic medical records (EMR)
