Job Summary
Review medical records post-discharge for compliance with hospital bylaws, federal, and state requirements. Enter patient abstracts correctly into the chart deficiency system and monitor admitted accounts for duplicate record numbers. File transcribed reports timely, communicate with physicians regarding delinquent reports, and ensure incomplete records are completed within specified timeframes. Maintain accurate transcription of dictated reports and adhere to state guidelines for processing History and Physical and operative reports. Requires familiarity with medical record content, maintenance, and retention rules.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- One to three months related experience and/or training
- Ability to use hospital information system
- Ability to operate basic computer functions and software
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to work well with others
- Must maintain a positive professional attitude
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
