Job Summary
Plan and provide music for weekly Catholic Masses, rehearsals, holy days, and special religious services at Luke Air Force Base Chapel. Coordinate music selections with the Catholic Priest or Lead Chaplain, lead the congregation and volunteer musicians, and perform vocally and instrumentally during scheduled events. Conduct at least one weekly rehearsal, prepare sheet music and arrangements, and recruit, train, and organize the praise team. Maintain Government-owned instruments, open and secure chapel facilities, and ensure all volunteers meet access requirements. Complete approximately 150 events annually with dependable weekly availability for weekend services and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- minimum of two years of college education in music or a related field, or equivalent years of relevant church or chapel music experience
- experience providing music for Catholic worship services
- ability to sing and vocally lead the congregation
- ability to play an appropriate musical instrument, such as piano, keyboard, organ, or guitar
- ability to sight-read music
- ability to arrange, improvise, play, and score music when required
- ability to organize and lead a Catholic praise team, choir, or volunteer music group
- understanding of Catholic liturgical seasons, traditions, and appropriate worship music
- ability to communicate effectively with the Catholic Priest, chapel staff, volunteers, and congregation members
- fluency in spoken and written English
- reliability, punctuality, professionalism, and availability for rehearsals, weekend services, holy days, holidays, and special events
- ability to arrive at least 15 minutes before every rehearsal, worship service, and special service
- ability to successfully complete all required background checks and installation-access requirements
- ability to work around minors in accordance with applicable Department of Defense background-screening requirements
