Cathodic Protection Technician

Job Summary

Monitor, maintain, and improve corrosion protection systems across critical gas infrastructure assets by assessing risks, prioritizing work programs, and conducting accurate field measurements using specialized testing equipment. Coordinate contractors for field data collection, analyze results to implement corrective actions, and prepare reports satisfying regulatory requirements. Install, troubleshoot, and upgrade cathodic protection infrastructure while calibrating equipment to industry standards. Provide technical guidance to contractors, identify performance trends, and support continuous improvement initiatives for network safety and integrity.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma in Electrical, Civil, or Engineering (or equivalent) with at least four years' pipeline corrosion experience
  • Australian Corrosion Association (ACA) Corrosion Technician Certificate with a minimum of five years' pipeline corrosion experience
  • Electrical trade qualification with at least five years' pipeline corrosion experience and a willingness to obtain the ACA Corrosion Technician Certificate
  • Current Victorian Driver Licence

Desired Qualifications

  • Extensive experience conducting cathodic protection testing on transmission and reticulation pipelines
  • Experience coordinating cathodic protection field testing, including Victorian Electrolysis Committee (VEC) area testing and foreign structure interference testing
  • Demonstrated experience undertaking coating assessment surveys using DCVG equipment
  • Experience using Pipeline-to-Foreign Earth Contact location equipment
  • Experience operating and maintaining field-based data logging systems
  • Knowledge of relevant Australian standards, industry codes, and quality systems
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret field data and recommend corrective actions
  • Proven ability to prepare detailed technical reports and communicate effectively with stakeholders
  • Strong leadership skills with experience training and mentoring contractors and field personnel
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Sound computer and data management skills
