Job Summary

Category Manager leads strategic sourcing, contracts, supplier relationships, and continuous improvement for categories supporting gas engine power generation equipment across multiple US manufacturing sites. This role drives quality, delivery, risk mitigation, total cost of ownership and supplier innovation aligned to corporate goals. Essential duties include developing and executing category strategies for mechanical, electrical, fuel-system, and ancillary components; leading strategic sourcing processes (market analysis, RFx design and execution, supplier selection, commercial evaluation, implementation); negotiating and managing master agreements and service agreements with KPIs, SLAs, and risk clauses; owning supplier relationship management; driving continuous improvement with suppliers and internal stakeholders to reduce cost, improve quality, shorten lead times, and increase first-pass yield; collaborating with engineering, operations, quality, logistics, and finance to meet manufacturing requirements; managing supplier risk with mitigation strategies including dual-sourcing and contingency planning; leading cross-functional sourcing projects and NPI sourcing activities; maintaining spend and savings metrics and reporting to procurement leadership; ensuring compliance with corporate procurement policies and relevant regulations; travel up to 25% and occasional relocation support not indicated.

Required Qualifications

  • 4 Year / Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field from an accredited university
  • 5 years of procurement/category management experience in industrial manufacturing, heavy equipment, or power generation
  • 5 years with gas engines or rotating equipment (preferred)
  • MBA or relevant advanced degree (preferred)
  • Must be able to fluently speak, write, and read in English
  • Ability to travel to multiple U.S. sites and supplier locations as required
  • Strong negotiation and contract drafting skills with demonstrated ability to secure favorable commercial terms and risk allocation
  • Data analysis and financial acumen: analyze spend, create cost models, quantify savings, and present ROI
  • Project management skills: plan and execute complex sourcing projects on time and within scope
  • Supplier performance management skills: scorecards, root-cause analysis, corrective action, continuous improvement facilitation
  • Proficiency with procurement and analytics tools (e-sourcing platforms, spend analytics, Excel advanced functions)
  • Knowledge of quality systems and standards applicable to power generation equipment (ISO, API)
  • Working knowledge of inventory management, MRP/ERP systems (SAP, Oracle) or equivalent
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Must be able to mentor and build capability within procurement and operations teams
  • Ability to manage confidential and commercially sensitive information with integrity
  • Must be able to fluently speak, write, and read in English
