Job Summary
Catalan Translator to support the Department of Justice with Translation, Interpretation, Transcription and other Linguistic Support Services. The role involves translating documents and multimedia content across legal, medical, financial, historical, and technical materials; providing court and deposition interpretation; preserving tone and register while maintaining strict confidentiality for sensitive material. Requires proficiency with English and Catalan, strong terminology skills across government and legal domains, experience with translation resources and CAT tools (notably SDL Trados Studio), and a Public Trust or higher security clearance. Remote work is available with NATIONAL CAPITOL REGION and CONUS locations; some travel may be required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of translation experience
- Qualifying ILR 3 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S. (not necessarily consecutive)
- At least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Know both English and foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual contexts
- Know specialized vocabulary in English and the foreign language related to Government roles and missions; have research and analytical skills for terminology
- Write in native language fluently with professional command of non-native language
- Translate accurately without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve tone and register of source materials
- Abide by linguist ethics
- Proficient in using CAT tools with emphasis on SDL Trados Studio
- Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
- Location: Remote / National Capitol Region / Various CONUS Locations
- Travel: Some travel may be required
