Job Summary
Assemble, install, analyze defects, and repair boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, vats, and duct work in the field using hand and power tools, gas torches, and welding equipment. Demolish leaky boilers, patch weak spots, replace defective sections, and strengthen joints while reading and interpreting prints and plans. Operate and maintain company-owned and rented equipment, including rigging tools, and ensure a safe working environment for subordinates and clients. Assist in selecting field personnel, report job scope changes, and complete required trainings such as confined space and OSHA guidelines. This project-based role involves extensive travel throughout the U.S., overnight stays, and variable hours with common overtime in a petrochemical/refinery environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 4-5 years' prior work experience in related industry
- Knowledge of rigged and rigging equipment
- Knowledge of crane/rigging hand signals
- Working knowledge of retrieval devices
- Working knowledge of fall protection equipment
- Working knowledge of company owned equipment including hand tools, power tools, hydraulic torque tools, and their required maintenance and inspection requirements
- Skills necessary to perform job function including blinding, tray repairs, tray modifications, and bolt torque
- Strong math and science skills
- Ability to bend, stoop, walk, climb, squat, reach, kneel, push/pull, stand, sit, and demonstrate hand strength and dexterity
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to occasionally lift more than 51 pounds
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Ability to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off platforms
- Ability to move about on hands and feet with foot agility and dexterity
- Ability to grasp, grip, and apply pressure to objects
- Ability to lift, raise, or lower objects vertically
- Ability to move objects horizontally
- Ability to pull, jerk, wrench, stretch, tow, draw, or drag objects
- Ability to reach, extend hands and/or arms

- Ability to operate pedals, foot controls, kick bars, and other similar tasks requiring foot or toe motion
- Ability to pass all required drug/alcohol testing
- Ability to pass background requirements
- Ability to pass pulmonary function test (PFT)
- Ability to be fit tested for various respirators
- Ability to wear protecting hearing equipment
- Ability to work in cold working conditions during winter months
- Ability to work in hot working conditions during summer months
- Ability to work in a petrochemical/refinery environment
- Ability to work in noise levels requiring hearing protection or frequent shouting
- Ability to use a respirator in emergency situations involving hazardous chemicals
- Ability to work overtime

- Ability to follow Company Safety, Quality Control/Quality Assurance procedures and OSHA guidelines
- Ability to maintain poise and focus under time constraint and adverse conditions
- Ability to read and interpret prints and plans

- Ability to repair or replace defective parts using hand and power tools, gas torches, welding equipment, and metalworking machinery
- Ability to demolish and dismantle leaky boilers
- Ability to patch weak spots with metal stock, replace defective sections, and strengthen joints
- Ability to use chain falls, come along, and other Rigging equipment
- Ability to assist with the cleaning and correct loading of equipment and trailers
- Ability to ensure safe working environment while performing work in client's facilities
- Ability to report job scope changes to Supervisor or Superintendent
- Ability to maintain communication with Supervisor while performing tasks
- Ability to support Supervisor and Superintendent by assisting in development of customer expectations and timelines
- Ability to ensure overall safety of assigned subordinates
- Ability to provide safe work environment for personnel
- Ability to assist in selection and development of field personnel
- Ability to attend and complete trainings as required by Company and client
Desired Qualifications
- 5+ years' prior work experience in related industry
- TWIC
- NCCER certification
- Basic Plus training
- Confined Space training
- OSHA 10/30 training
- First Aid and CPR trained
- Class A driver's license
- Clean MVR
Additional Requirements
- Pass all required drug/alcohol testing and background requirements
- Must be able to work in confined spaces
- Must be able to work at heights
