Job Summary
Administer underwriting rules, rating manuals, and insurance laws while analyzing exposures, measuring risk, and negotiating terms for new and renewal business. Build relationships with agents and brokers to support retention and growth, then calculate target prices using Zurich's underwriting tools. Collaborate with business line representatives to understand customer needs, promote products, and participate in sales meetings and target account planning. Resolve technical issues by referring to policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory controls. Travel for business and work extended hours during peak periods as required. Maintain a valid driver's license. This role reports to the AVP Liability Manager, Western Region, within Zurich Canada's commercial property-casualty insurance division.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent, with 1 or more years of experience in Insurance or Market-Facing areas (Claims/Underwriting Support, or relevant experience for specialized lines)
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area
- Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal/regulatory environment
- Understanding of underwriting philosophy, techniques, and filing regulations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Relationship-building, active listening, and negotiation skills
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Maintain a valid driver's license
- Travel for business and work extended hours during peak periods, as required
- Zurich follows a hybrid work model requiring three days per week of in-person presence, which may include time in the office or market-facing engagements
