Job Summary
Lead the strategic direction and operational performance of the Casualty Specialized Claims team, guiding specialized Claims Managers through technical portfolios including Environmental, EPLI, and mass tort litigation. Collaborate with legal counsel, underwriting, and reinsurance to develop coordinated claim strategies, counter legal system abuse, and protect loss-cost integrity. Monitor high-severity exposures and multi-party litigation using analytics to identify early trends and adverse development drivers. Ensure reserve accuracy, set settlement authorities, and manage litigation spend while developing and refining claim-handling protocols for complex specialty lines. Travel as needed for stakeholder meetings and industry engagements.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant experience
- 5+ years of leadership experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Juris Doctor (JD), MBA, CPCU, or RPLU designations
- 10 years of relevant and progressively more responsible work experience
- at least 7 years of supervisory experience
- At least 7 years claims handling within a technical specialty
- advanced knowledge of claims handling concepts, practices, procedures and techniques
- advanced knowledge of a technical specialty
- Knowledge of law and insurance regulations in various jurisdictions
- The ability to effectively interact with brokers and internal departments
- Strong verbal and written communications and organizational skills
- Strong negotiation, analytical and decision making skills
- Candidates within a 50-mile radius of one of our GRS claims offices (Westborough, MA; Boston, MA; Hoffman Estates, IL; Indianapolis, IN; Lake Oswego, OR; Las Vegas, NV; Chandler, AZ; Plano, TX; Suwanee, GA; or Weatogue, CT) will be expected to be in-office at least twice weekly

- Bachelors' degree or equivalent training

- Experience with Environmental, EPLI, Professional Liability (E&O), mass tort litigation/MDL/class action, Umbrella, Excess, and the full range of Coverage B – Personal and Advertising Injury exposures
