Job Summary
Provide individual and small group verbal language support for English language learners and non-English speaking families, acting as a bridge between schools and students' families. Interpret services at student-parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings, and community gatherings, while coordinating appointment scheduling in parents' native languages. Assist students, families, and staff in communicating academic achievements and student progress. Requires DSHS or CPSD certification, fluency in English and a second language, and ability to explain cultural concepts. Positions are on-call, at-will with no guaranteed hours, paid at $30.00/hr for certified interpreters or $23.70/hr for those with CPSD training. Background checks and fingerprinting are required prior to employment.
Required Qualifications
- Must complete 6-hour Interpreter Training class (offered through the school district or Puget Sound Education Service District) or college level interpretation program
- Understanding of school terms and vocabulary
- Speak, read and write fluently in indicated language and English
- Ability to explain cultural concepts to avoid miscommunication and to act as a cultural broker
- Excellent listening and retention abilities
- Be punctual during scheduled work times
- Remain consistent, calm and fair under pressure
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and public
- Ability to effectively work with diverse populations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Background check and fingerprinting
- Ability to sit or stand for prolonged period of time
- Use of fingers, hands and arms
- Operate a motor vehicle
- Tolerance of loud noises
- Tolerance of physically demanding situations
- Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303
