Job Summary
Direct and lead the team of Personal Support Workers to ensure quality care is delivered to long-term care residents. Perform routine nursing procedures including distributing medication, taking vital signs, collecting specimens, changing dressings, and assisting with respiratory and intravenous therapy under Registered Nurse supervision. Monitor resident progress, report condition changes, and assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care goals in accordance with CNO standards and the Fixing Long-Term Care Act. Supervise and train students while maintaining compliance with occupational health and safety guidelines. This permanent casual role works up to 22.5 hours per week across weekday, afternoon, and midnight shifts, including weekends and holidays, at Riverview Gardens LTC.
Required Qualifications
- Secondary school graduation diploma or equivalent education (i.e. GED certificate)
- Completion of a Practical Nursing program
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as an RPN
- Possess current Standard Level First Aid and Level C CPR certifications
- Healthcare Provider (C) certificate
- Annual Flu immunization
- 2 step TB skin test to be completed within two weeks of starting position
- This position works indoors
- This position works up to 22.5 hours per week and 3 out of 4 weekends
- This position works weekday and weekend hours for days, afternoons, and midnight shifts, which may include statutory holidays
- You must be 18 years of age or older to obtain a vulnerable police check
- Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to commencement of employment
- A Vulnerable Sector Screen is required (Fixing Long-Term Care Act Section 252 O. Reg. 246/22) prior to being accepted for employment
- all staff members shall promptly provide the employer with a signed declaration disclosing new charges, convictions, orders and restraining orders, consistent with Ontario Regulation Section 253 O. Reg 246/22
Desired Qualifications
- Completion of a post-diploma geriatric program
- Training in appropriate use of restraints and current best practices in least restraint policy
- Experience with RAI-MDS coding
- Familiar with Point Click Care (PCC) / EMAR (Electronic Medication Administration Record)
- RPN work experience, or student placement experience, in a long-term care home
- RPN work experience or student placement experience in a setting for care of the elderly
- Experience with restorative care
- Experience participating in a workplace committee
- Excellent team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Possess computer keyboarding skills
