Job Summary
Process customer orders efficiently and accurately at a two-aisle check stand, multi-station self-checkout lane, or customer service desk while maintaining friendly, cooperative service. Operate check stand equipment, including cash registers and scanners, to handle monetary transactions involving cash, checks, gift certificates, and food stamps. Engage in suggestive selling, monitor product locations and pricing, and ensure the work area remains clean, stocked, and secure. Expedite transactions at self-checkout kiosks by addressing alerts, verifying payments, and assisting customers to limit shrinkage. Adhere to all state and federal laws regarding restricted items and food stamp procedures while navigating high-volume, fast-paced environments. Work varied shifts between 5:00 am and 1:00 am, including nights, weekends, and holidays, lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.
Required Qualifications
- Work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation; including night, weekends and holidays.
- Perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers with composure.
- Communicate (hearing and speech) to perform customer relation tasks
- Complete written forms.
- Conduct visual inspection, read information on merchandise, etc.
- Lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to 20 lbs. frequently and perform repetitious work accurately.
- Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales.
- Stand or sit for long periods of time, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently for long periods of time.
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Manual dexterity and good hand/eye coordination.
- Learn and memorize a considerable amount of information including PLU codes, location of products, check stand and keyboard procedures and company policies.
- Ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide).
- Occasionally use blades for box cutting.
- Use household cleaners to maintain work area (i.e., approved all-purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, etc.).
- Perform primary duties efficiently and accurately.
- Navigate and manage potentially high stress situations, volatile or unsatisfied customers, and a high volume of transactions and customers.
- As required by applicable state and local laws, food safety/handlers cards, tobacco and alcohol sales certification (e.g., TAM card).
