Job Summary
Process customer orders at two-aisle check stands, multi-station self-checkout lanes, or the customer service desk using scanners, registers, and scales. Welcome, engage, and thank customers while operating check stand equipment and handling monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, and food stamps. Monitor UPC codes, ensure proper pricing, and maintain a clean, stocked, and safe work area. Assist customers at self-checkout kiosks by reviewing alerts, clearing errors, and verifying payments in a fast-paced setting. Stock, price, and rotate merchandise while adhering to all cash handling policies, restricted item sales laws, and USDA Food Stamp procedures. Work 6-8 hour shifts between 5:00 am and 1:00 am in a 24/7 environment, lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally and standing for long periods.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation; including night, weekends and holidays
- Ability to perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers with composure
- Ability to communicate (hearing and speech) to perform customer relation tasks
- Ability to complete written forms
- Ability to conduct visual inspection, read information on merchandise, etc
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to 20 lbs. frequently and perform repetitious work accurately
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally
- Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently for long periods of time
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Manual dexterity and good hand/eye coordination
- Ability to learn and memorize a considerable amount of information including PLU codes, location of products, check stand and keyboard procedures and company policies
- Ability to ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide)
- Ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Ability to use household cleaners to maintain work area (i.e., approved all-purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, etc.)
- Ability to perform primary duties efficiently and accurately
- Ability to navigate and manage potentially high stress situations, volatile or unsatisfied customers, and a high volume of transactions and customers
- Food safety/handlers cards
- Tobacco and alcohol sales certification (e.g., TAM card)
