Job Summary
Operate cash register and electronic scanner to itemize and total customer purchases, receive payment, and assist in bagging items including dry groceries, frozen foods, dairy, produce, poultry, fish, beef, and pork. Process financial transactions for cash, checks, credit cards, food stamps, WIC, loyalty cards, gift certificates, rain checks, voids, and coupons accurately. Weigh and bag customer purchases while managing check-stand merchandising for newspapers, periodicals, and candy. Ensure proper use of product identification and PLU codes, report pricing errors, and communicate company programs and in-store specials to customers. Comply with security, cash handling, product handling, and alcohol/tobacco sales policies. Maintain a clean, well-stocked department adhering to safety, sanitation, and food safety standards. This role requires standing and walking for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, and may include additional tasks based on customer experience needs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of prior retail or related experience
- Good verbal communication skills
- Good customer service and organizational skills
- Detail-oriented
- Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds frequently
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
- Ability to work in a typical retail store environment with varied temperatures
- Ability to be exposed to outside weather conditions
- Ability to work in a low to moderate noise level environment
- Ability to comply with Company policies regarding security, cash handling/cash drawer accounting procedures, product handling, the sale of alcohol and tobacco products
- Ability to comply with Company safety and sanitation procedures and standards
- Ability to follow all PPE and Safety Guidelines
- Ability to follow Food Safety and Cleaning Expectations
- Ability to follow guest experience guidelines
Desired Qualifications
