Job Summary
Greet customers with a smile, scan products or weigh produce, and operate the cash register accurately to accept all payment forms and provide correct change. Maintain the cash drawer with sufficient currency, count it at the start and end of shifts, and conduct price checks when necessary. Bag items for customers, assist with loading into carts, and return discarded items to shelves. Keep the conveyor belt, scanner, scale, and counter clean, while helping to maintain the store front organized and free of safety hazards. Straighten displays and shelves when requested, and gather shopping carts from the store and parking lot. Assist the manager on duty in other departments as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish
- Ability to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations with directors, managers, customers (both internal and external) and the general public
- Good mathematical skills
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form
- Ability to use computer, cash register and lottery, money order machines, etc., to accomplish essential duties of this position and change or add receipt paper when needed
- Ability to use 10-key adding machine
- Takes responsibility for own actions
- Ability to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekends
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
- Must be able to push and pull carts of merchandise
- Must be able to stoop or bend at the waist
- Must be able to twist back and neck
- Must be able to stand in one place for extended periods of time
- Must be able to walk
- Must be able to use fingers and hands to type, handle, or feel
- Must be able to reach with hands and arms
