Job Summary
Greet customers with a smile, scan products or weigh produce, and operate the cash register accurately to accept all payment forms and provide correct change. Maintain the cash drawer with sufficient currency, count it at the start and end of shifts, and conduct price checks as needed. Bag items for customers, assist with loading carts, return discarded items to shelves, and keep the conveyor belt, scanner, scale, and counter clean. Assist with store cleanliness, organize displays and shelves, and gather shopping carts from the front and parking lot. Report equipment malfunctions to the manager and participate in store or department meetings when scheduled.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish
- Ability to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations with directors, managers, customers (both internal and external) and the general public
- Good mathematical skills
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form
- Ability to use computer, cash register and lottery, money order machines, etc., to accomplish essential duties of this position and change or add receipt paper when needed
- Ability to use 10-key adding machine
- Takes responsibility for own actions
- Ability to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekends
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
- Ability to see including close vision and peripheral vision
- Carry, lift and/or move up to 20 pounds (e.g. bag of rice)
- Push and pull carts of merchandise
- Stoop or bend at the waist
- Twist back and neck
