Job Summary
Greet customers entering the store, answer questions about merchandise, and establish prices using calculators, cash registers, or optical scanners. Receive payments by cash, check, credit card, voucher, or automatic debit, validate checks by requesting driver's license information, and issue receipts, refunds, or change. Bag or box merchandise, offer carry-out service, and maintain clean checkout areas. Process returns and exchanges, resolve customer complaints courteously, and assist in investigating register out-of-balance problems. Sort currency, weigh items to determine prices, recommend accessories, and assist with stocking shelves. Count money in cash drawers at shift start to ensure accuracy and adequate change.
Required Qualifications
- Proven work history in providing customer service
- Ability to calculate numbers, correct entries, and utilize computer system
- Ability to effectively communicate information, policies, and/or procedures in a manner easily understood by the customer
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience
- Must be able to work majority of shift standing
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
Desired Qualifications
- GED or equivalent experience preferred not required
