Job Summary
Cashier at the Community Food Co-op handles front-end sales transactions and customer service duties including POS transactions, member support, bagging groceries, stocking and cleaning front-end areas, and assisting at the service desk. Responsibilities include processing purchases with POS, handling cash and forms of payment (cash, credit, checks, EBT, vouchers), entering PLU codes, ensuring accurate scanning, maintaining pricing accuracy, supporting membership explanations, processing returns and member account inquiries, and assisting with light store-wide tasks and team communication. The role requires friendly, reliable, detail-oriented service in a fast-paced environment, with potential duties around stocking and product conditioning as needed, and is designated as non-exempt, union-affiliated, with evening and weekend shifts.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to provide friendly, attentive customer service
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, multitasking environment
- Strong attention to detail with commitment to transaction accuracy
- Ability to learn and recall PLUs, procedures, and Co-op policies
- Experience with cash handling and POS systems preferred
- Clear and confident communication skills; multilingual skills are a plus
- Must be at least 18 years of age
