Cashier Assistant (Temporary Hourly)

Job Summary
Prepare, cook, and serve meals, salads, and a la-carte items according to standardized recipes while maintaining accurate food preparation documentation. Act as a cashier in the school cafeteria to collect monies, record sales via a computerized point of sale system, and assist with deposit preparation. Ensure kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils meet sanitation codes by performing housekeeping duties such as sweeping, mopping, and cleaning dining areas. Participate in on-the-job training regarding federally reimbursable meals and follow the Wake County Public School System Child Nutrition Handbook. Maintain ServSafe certification and provide customer service to students, parents, and staff.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be ServSafe Certified or able to become ServSafe Certified within 90 days and maintain certification.
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps
- Excellent customer service skills
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team member and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations required for completion of records and reports
- Ability to read, interpret, and administer detailed instructions and recipes in large quantities
- Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, and the community
- Must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, parents, and the community
- Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of a minimum of 40 pounds of force
