Job Summary
Process customer transactions using the POS to compute bills, make change, issue receipts, and handle rain checks for out-of-stock items. Scan price-coded merchandise, verify scanned prices against tags, and manage tax exemptions or refunds as required. Handle cash, checks, and credit memoranda while obtaining necessary customer information for each sale. Assist with returned merchandise by completing paperwork, issuing refunds, and processing defective items with management approval. Maintain register areas and housekeeping standards, including emptying trash, organizing collected paperwork, and restocking merchandise during slow periods. Support departmental operations by loading/unloading trucks, answering phones, and relaying communication to management.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- one to three months related experience and/or training
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English
- Ability to write simple correspondence, in English
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization, in English
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, in English
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
