Case Manager, Syracuse City Emerging Adult Domestic Violence Court

Job Summary
Provide crisis intervention, local service delivery systems advocacy, and short-term clinically-informed case management services to individuals with active cases in the Syracuse City Emerging Adult Domestic Violence Court. Conduct intakes, needs-based assessments, and brief educational sessions inside the courtroom while serving as a liaison to build relationships with court stakeholders and community partners. Establish linkages for appropriate interventions, assist clients in navigating criminal justice and legal resources, and attend court meetings to help participants navigate their appearances. Deliver court update reports, gather outcome data, and maintain accurate case documentation aligned with program models and best practices. De-escalate difficult situations and ensure adequate services for participants while adhering to safety protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in social work or related field
- Minimum 2-4 years' experience in case management
- Prior experience with youth or young adults
- Experience with individuals experiencing domestic violence
- Experience with mental health
- Experience with substance use disorder
- Experience with homelessness
- Experience in pretrial, court-based, or criminal legal system
- Ability to work effectively in a crisis-orientated setting
- Excellent written skills
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary setting
- Ability to maintain strong relationships with multiple agencies and organizations both onsite and in the community
- Ability to develop a compassionate rapport with defendants accused of domestic violence
- Knowledge of community-based service delivery systems
- Thorough knowledge of the criminal and civil justice systems
- Ability to promptly respond to crises
- Ability to conduct thorough and consistent follow-up with participants and community-based service partners
- Ability to provide trauma informed services

- Ability to provide emotional support for the short term and immediate needs of EA DV Court participants
- Ability to provide face-to-face and telephone crisis intervention at the request of participants
- Ability to ensure adequate services for program participants
- Ability to de-escalate difficult and/or emotional participant situations
- Ability to respond promptly to their needs
- Ability to conduct intakes and needs-based assessments for participants
- Ability to serve as a liaison and build positive working relationships with court stakeholders, community partners, and partnering agencies
- Ability to create and facilitate brief educational sessions to emerging adults inside the courtroom
- Ability to establish and maintain linkages with community partners who can provide appropriate interventions and services to court-involved individuals
- Ability to assist clients in identifying, understanding, and prioritizing problems in obtaining information on available resources
- Ability to assist in seeking help from intervention systems including criminal justice, legal, medical counseling, and income programs
- Ability to attend EA DV Court, meeting with participants before, during, and after their court appearances
- Ability to help participants navigate court and collaborate with court staff and stakeholders
- Ability to deliver court update reports to the courtroom
- Ability to gather case outcome information
- Ability to collect court documents and stand on record, as needed
- Ability to maintain accurate and timely data entry and case documentation aligned with the program model, court reporting obligations, and best practices
- Ability to maintain the case management database consistent with the Center's data guidelines and best practices
- Ability to ensure that all services are maintained in accordance with the Center's mission and goals
- Ability to connect participants to community-based service partners, including but not limited to abusive partner intervention programs (APIP), local social services, employment and education programs, substance abuse treatment programs, shelter services, legal advocacy, and counseling
- Ability to identify and address barriers to voluntary service engagement
- Ability to ensure warm handoffs to community-based providers, when feasible
