Job Summary

Maintain a caseload of Veteran households at risk of homelessness by assessing housing needs and providing case management and financial assistance. Develop client-defined Housing Stability Plans using Housing First and Motivational Interviewing approaches, then connect families with VA and community resources to secure permanent housing. Conduct thorough intakes, eligibility screenings, and home visits while independently traveling within the Anchorage and Matanuska-Susitna region. Enter client data and case notes into the Homeless Management Information System, maintain accurate records, and complete recertification requirements. Establish collaborative relationships with community providers and attend resource meetings. Adhere to SSVF Program Manual policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One (1) year as a CSS Assistant Case Manager, or one (1) year direct service experience or relevant/related experience
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, social services, addiction, counseling, psychiatric nursing, or psychology
  • Four (4) years of directly applicable experience may be substituted for the required education
  • Four (4) years experience equivalent to a CSS Case Manager
  • Counselor Technician Certification, Chemical Dependency Counselor I Certification, or Chemical Dependency Counselor II Certification
  • Ability to serve individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, ideologies, and faiths
  • Ability to work and thrive in a team environment
  • Ability to take initiative, and work independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Excellent organizational and record keeping skills
  • Knowledge of and ability to practice SSVF core concepts; Housing First, Crisis Response, and Client Choice
  • Knowledge of and ability to practice trauma-informed care
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing/at risk of homelessness. Experiencing working with individuals in crisis
  • Knowledge of available community resources in the Anchorage and MATSU region, especially resources serving Veterans and people experiencing homelessness/people at risk of homelessness
  • Knowledge of housing resources in Anchorage, Landlord/Tenant Laws and Fair Housing Regulations in Alaska
  • Knowledge of client confidentiality practices
  • Knowledge of the SSVF Program eligibility requirements
  • Fully proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Experiencing using Apricot, Intacct, and AKHMIS software
  • Proficient to expert level data entry skills
  • Proficient with Windows operating systems
  • Must be able to transport persons in their own vehicle
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience providing case management activities to veterans and/or the homeless population
  • Embraces a Housing First approach to helping homeless veterans individuals and families stabilize and return to permanent and traditional housing
