Job Summary

Coordinate patient care through the surgical process, providing education and advocacy while facilitating discharge planning and support services. Assist with insurance and resource needs and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, seamless, and holistic care. Manage a system of patient care delivery for a designated group of patients to achieve high quality, cost effective outcomes across the continuum of health care. This First Shift role is onsite at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, NE, with a Monday through Friday schedule from 8 AM to 5 PM. The team partners with UNMC to transform lives through education, research, and patient care.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years nursing experience
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and make independent clinical judgments
  • Experience with basic patient care equipment, policy procedure and protocol manuals
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with an interdisciplinary team
  • Effective critical thinking/analytical skills
  • Ability to effectively evaluate care across the continuum
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska or current compact state license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program

  • Prior experience in dialysis
  • Prior experience in interpretation
  • Prior experience in explanation of physical/laboratory/screening results
  • Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree
  • Successful completion of nephrology nurse education program
  • Knowledge of health care financial environment and reimbursement systems
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel
  • Experience with graphic software
  • Experience with patient teaching materials
  • Understanding of related patient registries and data bases
  • Experience leading/supervising a team
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Certification as Blood and Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse
  • Certification as Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)
  • Certification as International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
  • Certification as Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN)
  • Certification in Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy and Biotherapy
  • Certification in transplant coordination
  • Certification in Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
