Job Summary
Supervise volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates, coaching them to prepare for court hearings by reviewing reports, devising strategy, and organizing testimony. Accompany advocates to initial case events, visits with prospective placement providers, family interviews, and court hearings, standing in for volunteers as needed. Directly advocate for youth in protective custody when no volunteer is assigned by carrying out all case-related duties. Prepare and file court reports for all hearings, ensuring compliance with Dallas CASA, Texas CASA, and National CASA/GAL Association requirements. Maintain confidentiality, promote community respect, and facilitate two training sessions annually. Complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education covering child welfare law, trauma-informed care, and the Indian Child Welfare Act. Full-time role requiring occasional evening and weekend work, some travel with valid Texas driver's license, and adherence to Dallas CASA policies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in social work or related field
- Two-three years of professional experience in a role in human services, or extensive volunteer experience
- Working knowledge of the juvenile and child welfare system or social services
- Experience in staff or volunteer supervision
- Demonstrated project management skills
- Demonstrated ability to write clear and concise reports needed for court reports and correspondence
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically with Word
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Demonstrated openness, inclusiveness, and sensitivity toward those from different cultural backgrounds, and the ability to interact respectfully with all people
- Ability to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality when dealing with proprietary, volunteer, donor, client, and staff information as well as sensitive situations
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds minimum for lifting files and office supplies, opening filing cabinets and transporting materials to and from meetings, presentations and to other locations as needed
- Intermittent physical activities which included driving, bending, reaching, sitting, climbing steps, and walking during working hours
- Must have reliable transportation
- Maintain a current valid Texas driver's license
- $100,000/$300,000 automobile liability insurance
