Job Summary
Read and interpret construction drawings to determine materials and installation methods for university structures. Select wood and other materials, prepare layouts using measuring tools, and cut, shape, and assemble construction materials with manual and power tools. Perform specialized work including window installation, finish carpentry, roof and ceiling construction, concrete form work, and demolition. Erect and maintain scaffolding for carpentry tasks and physical plant functions. Maintain tool care and adhere to safety procedures while working on campus at 7,220 feet above sea level.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- completion of a U.S. Department of Labor approved carpentry apprenticeship program
- 4 years work-related experience
- Journeyman level status as a Carpenter as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor
- Valid driver's license
- motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the Driving for University Business SAP
- eligibility to work in the United States
- ability to work and perform essential job functions on campus
- ability to work at 7,220 feet above sea level
Desired Qualifications
- Standard practices, materials, and tools of the carpentry trade
- Basic knowledge of all main carpentry areas; framing, finish, window installation, roofing, flooring, ceiling, concrete forms, and demolition
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade
- Select appropriate materials based on application and amounts required
- Read, interpret and work from sketches, blueprints, specifications, and construction drawings
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- Care for the tools and equipment of the trade
- Use the tools and equipment of the trade
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Move objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly
- Read, understand and follow safety procedures
- Work as a team member and foster a cooperative work environment
