Job Summary

Study blueprints and building plans to determine material requirements and dimensions, then select lumber and other supplies. Prepare layouts, mark cutting lines, and shape materials to prescribed measurements before assembling structures with nails, glue, or dowel pins. Erect frameworks, install subflooring, and construct stairs, partitions, and cabinet work. Cover subfloors with building paper and install hardwood or parquet flooring. Apply decorative paneling to ceilings and walls, then fit and install window frames, doors, trim, and hardware. Erect scaffolding for work above ground level and construct forms for concrete pouring. Immediately report all incidents to your supervisor. This position operates in a commercial construction environment with no supervisory duties.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • ten (10) years carpentry experience
  • Minimum five (5) years progressive carpentry experience
  • Must be experience in flooring and finish work
  • Driver's License
  • acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
  • Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
