Job Summary
Perform new work construction and structural repairs to current buildings, including erecting rough framing, completing finish trim, and installing stairs, kitchen cabinets, counter tops, door frames, and windows. Utilize general machines and hand tools such as table saws, band saws, drill presses, and routers to fabricate and install finished office furniture like shelves, bookcases, and tables. Maintain tools, materials, and work space while observing all Authority and OSHA safety regulations. Work 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p., Monday through Friday, with overtime and weekend hours available for emergencies or weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED or possession of a vocational technical certification beyond high school
- 5 to 7 years of experience in all aspects of building maintenance and construction
- Valid Massachusetts driver's license
- Must be able to successfully pass the Carpenter's Test
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds
- Must be available for emergency overtime duty as required
- Overtime and weekend hours
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to follow structural drawings
- Ability to utilize all carpenter tools
- Working knowledge of the Massachusetts Building Code
- Strong background in math, measurements and safety
- Strong technical and construction skills, including framing walls and partitions, installing doors and windows, building stairs, and installing cabinets and molding
- Knowledge of policies, procedures, goals, objectives, operational entities, requirements and activities as they apply to the assigned area of responsibility in the CHA
- Extensive knowledge of all applicable federal and municipal building, construction and property maintenance laws, regulations and codes
- Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and corresponding OSHA safety precautions necessary for safe performance of assigned duties
- Extensive knowledge of architectural and structural principals and techniques
- In depth knowledge of general construction of residential and high rise structures
- Ability to read and interpret blue print drawings
- Ability to read and understand moderately complex repair and service manuals, diagrams, and instructions/warnings
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, suppliers and the general public
