Job Summary
Performs general carpentry and assorted duties necessary to maintain, repair, or upgrade facilities, structures, and utilities. Works both inside and outside of buildings and structures to perform all types of rough and finish carpentry, constructs, repairs, modifies, and maintains housing, commercial, and industrial buildings. Reads and uses blueprints and engineering drawings; measures, lays out, and machines wood, tile, plastics, and other materials; uses hand and power tools; opens door locks and maintains keying systems; assists other trades; adheres to safety practices on a remote Wake Island site with on-site housing. Rotation consists of three months on the island and one month off unpaid; transportation provided by government-sponsored aircraft; union position with hourly pay. Requires high school diploma or equivalent, five years journeyman carpentry experience, locksmith certification or ability to obtain, valid driver's license, ability to pass NACI and medical clearance for long-term residency in a remote location. Benefits and post-employment terms noted but salary is contingent on experience and location;Posted pay ranges are guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Five (5) years journeyman level carpentry experience
- Current Locksmith Certification or ability to obtain
- Valid state drivers’ license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to pass National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI)
- Must pass a background check, drug screening, fingerprints, and a fit-for-duty physical exam; candidates must be medically cleared for long-term residency in a remote location with limited access to healthcare
