Job Summary
Conduct craft-specific duties to support the fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of wood structures and furnishings in marine vessels. Assist in constructing floors, doors, partitions, ladders, handrails, and installing sound dampening and ballasting materials. Layout and align materials per specifications, measure and cut components, and account for daily work assignments. Operate woodworking machines, hand tools, and power tools while complying with safety, ethics, and environmental regulations. Work flexible hours including overtime, weekends, and holidays in a heavy industrial shipyard environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalence
- Six or more months carpentry experience
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to construct marine vessels
- Knowledge of ship terminology
- Knowledge of safety
- Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations
- Ability to read and comprehend written, verbal, or diagram form
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form
- Ability to read and understand blueprints
- Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure
- Ability to read a tape measure
- Ability to work above ground at heights of a minimum of 50 feet aloft
- Ability to work from scaffolding
- Ability to work from man-lifts
- Ability to work with machinery
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Ability to withstand extreme heat and cold in an outside climate or confined space
- Ability to be physically and medically qualified to wear all required personal protective equipment
