Job Summary
Career Development Specialist within the Michigan Works! Team assesses One-Stop customers, identifies opportunities for skill upgrades or re-training, and enrolls qualified job candidates into training opportunities. Responsibilities include providing career coaching (resume assistance, mock interviews, supportive services), connecting participants to training and scholarship opportunities, helping resolve barriers to employment, maintaining participant files with monthly audits, staying current on Michigan Works! services and local employment opportunities, conducting outreach to recruit participants, utilizing assessment tools for career planning, and collaborating with internal and external partners to deliver workshops (in person and virtual). Strong knowledge of workforce programs (WIOA, FAE&T, PATH, RESEA, TAA, Wagner-Peyser) and a commitment to helping diverse populations achieve self-sufficiency. The role emphasizes data integrity, program compliance, and cross-team collaboration in a flexible, inclusive environment with periodic telecommute options and travel within the region.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional experience in business, human services, workforce development, or a related field
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Passionate about serving others and the community
- Capability to work in a team environment
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and maintain confidentiality
- Solid computer skills and ability in Microsoft, Excel, Power Point and virtual meeting platforms (ex: Google Hangout, Zoom)
- Ability to adapt to change and work in a fast pace environment
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Two years of professional experience in business, social services, workforce development, or a related field
- Prior case management experience
- Spanish bilingual ability
