Job Summary
Career Coach for SBCS Excel program, responsible for outreach/recruitment, counseling, eligibility (WIOA), case management, assessment, and job-placement activities for at-risk youth and families. Responsibilities include conducting initial assessments, providing one-on-one job counseling, facilitating work-readiness workshops, maintaining case files and data (CalJOBS), coordinating with employers and partner agencies, delivering in-person support and safe transportation as needed, and developing internships/placements. Requires collaboration with the EXCEL team, ability to conduct program presentations, maintain confidentiality, and build relationships with employers, community-based organizations, and local agencies. Requires a BA/BS in Social Services or equivalent experience, 1–2 years working with youth populations (homeless, foster care, justice-involved), strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work in a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive environment.
Required Qualifications
- BA or BS degree in Social Services, required OR a minimum of four years of experience in Workforce Development and/or related field as an equivalency
- A minimum of 1–2 years of program experience working with special populations of youth (homeless, foster care, justice involved) and provision of direct services
- Excellent time management, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to public speak
- Computer literacy and familiarity with personal computers
- Ability to engage others, maintain empathy, de-escalate situations
- Demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and problem-solving abilities
- Maintain regular communication with assigned students; reminders about important dates and events
- Ability to work with confidential information
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse populations
- Ability to work under deadlines and handle clients in crisis
- Physical ability to perform duties as described
