Job Summary
Direct Care Staff support individuals with traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries in a residential/rehabilitation setting. Primary duties include hands-on daily living assistance (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, mobility), monitoring behavioral and physical changes, assisting with range-of-motion and transfers using assistive devices, ensuring safe medication administration under clinical oversight, utilizing de-escalation techniques for behavioral challenges, maintaining a clean and structured living environment, and completing documentation such as shift notes and incident reports. Collaborates with nursing, therapy, and case management to support individualized care plans; offers comprehensive training and development opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum 1 year of experience with individuals with TBI or SCI preferred
- Certified Medication Aide (CMA) or Med Tech certification preferred or required by state regulations
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
- Ability to lift, transfer, and physically assist individuals with mobility limitations
- Strong observational, communication, and teamwork skills
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries
