Job Summary
Call patients to remind them of scheduled appointments, reschedule no-shows, and verify demographic and insurance information for billing. Collect time-of-service payments, check patients in and out of clinics, and notify patients of non-covered services. Document all interactions in medical records, obtain insurance authorizations per HCFA guidelines, and review encounter tickets for CPT and ICD-10 code accuracy. Keys charges into the billing system, prints bills on demand, and screens telephone inquiries regarding fees and physician qualifications. Maintain medical records by scanning, filing, and processing requests, subpoenas, and disability forms in accordance with HIPAA and Risk Management policies. Work 20 hours or more per week in a regular position to qualify for benefits.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1 year of clerical experience in an access center, customer service, or healthcare setting
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
- Regular and prompt attendance
- Ensures patient confidentiality
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records
- Completion of higher level of education as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama
- Comparable combination of education and experience
