Job Summary
Manage overnight cardiothoracic surgery patients across the ward and ICU, assessing post-operative cardiac and thoracic surgical cases and adjusting treatment plans in real time. Respond to changes in patient status, order and interpret diagnostics, and collaborate by phone with cardiac surgeons and intensivists, escalating in person when needed. Coordinate with bedside nursing, respiratory therapy, and ancillary teams to deliver seamless care, ensuring thorough hand-offs to the day team each morning. Work fourteen shifts per month with full physician support and access to a highly resourced program.
Required Qualifications
- Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) licensure
- Eligibility for licensure in South Dakota
- ICU experience
- Cardiac experience
- Strong clinical judgment
- Comfort managing acutely ill patients overnight
- Confidence to work autonomously with physician backup a phone call away
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification
