Job Summary
Observe cardiac telemetry monitors as assigned, setting appropriate alarm parameters and obtaining baseline strips at the start of each shift. Identify dysrhythmias or significant rhythm changes, obtain documentary strips labeled correctly with patient details, and notify nursing staff of critical heart activity or irregularities promptly. Edit, mount, and label tracings for physician and nursing review while entering admission information into the monitoring system and maintaining accurate telemetry log books. Maintain equipment in clean working order, troubleshoot problems, and refer issues to Biomedical Engineering or complete incident reports for lost monitors. Order and stock monitoring supplies, recognize safety hazards, and participate in orientation processes for new employees.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to read and write in order to obtain and record pertinent information in patient charts and to perform noncomplex arithmetic calculations as normally acquired through completion of high school
- Knowledge of medical terminology and physical sciences
- Basic analytical skills in order to recognize abnormal heart rhythms or artifact in test data and to notify appropriate personnel
- Requires a passing grade of 85% on the Dysrhythmia Proficiency Exam
