Job Summary
Conduct and administer cardiac exercise stress testing, including treadmill tests and the ECG-monitoring portion of stress echocardiograms, while supporting nuclear cardiology stress testing and EECP treatments. Perform pre-test clinical assessments by reviewing medical history, medications, and baseline ECGs to identify contraindications, then monitor cardiac rhythm, vital signs, and symptoms throughout the examination. Provide clear patient education, prepare accurate preliminary documentation and reports for physician review, and manage Holter monitor recordings and device operations. Maintain a clean clinical workspace, troubleshoot equipment, and ensure compliance with Quality Assurance standards before releasing findings.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or Kinesiology
- Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology
- Current paramedic certification and license
- Strong foundation in exercise science, graded exercise testing, cardiac physiology and patient monitoring
- Twelve months of accumulated experience within the previous three years in a comparable job classification
- Demonstrated ability to recognize and interpret ECG tracings, monitor cardiac rhythms, calculate required test parameters and identify findings that require escalation
- Completion of a basic cardiac arrhythmia or ECG course with certification, or completion within 90 days of hire
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Healthcare Workers or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Demonstrated proficiency with electronic health records, computerized testing systems and software used for documentation and report generation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, physicians and staff at all levels
- Frequent standing and the ability to remain standing for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry a laptop computer and up to 20 pounds of supplies
- Adequate hearing and vision to safely monitor patients, equipment and ECG displays
- Ability to manage occasional workload-related stress while maintaining patient safety and professional communication
- Flexibility in scheduling
- Occasional evening or weekend clinics
- Travel between SDCC locations
