Job Summary
Steer, navigate, and operate tug and barges while monitoring deck operations, managing cargo loading and unloading, and maintaining vessel seaworthiness. Complete shipboard documents, conduct Job Safety Analyses, and perform drills or handle emergencies to ensure safety of people, property, and the environment. Manage and direct the vessel's crew, including Deckhands and Mates, while enforcing company policies and Coast Guard regulations. Maintain equipment, record inventories, and communicate via VHF radio with crew, customers, and government agencies. Cook meals, drive crew change vans, and live in close quarters onboard for weeks at a time. This 7/7 schedule requires a Master of Towing with at least five years of experience on vessels over 200 gross tons.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma (or Equivalent)
- Reliable Transportation to and from Work
- Basic Computer Skills
- Valid Driver's License
- Acceptable Driving Record
- Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
- Valid United States Coast Guard Medical Certificate
- Valid Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with Master of Towing Upon Great Lakes, Inland Waters and Western Rivers
- At Least Five Years of Work Experience as a Master of Towing on a Vessel of No Less than 200 Gross Tons
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
